Creative Montessori Academy Board of Directors stands firm for safe, secure schools, and makes the tough decisions to ensure that every child receives a first class education free of disruption, threat, and fear. The Board is focused on student achievement, parent satisfaction, and a safe, secure location for learning.
CMA operates under the public school academy governance structure in which the Academy is authorized (received its charter from) Wayne RESA. Wayne RESA appoints CMA Board of Directors. Members are required to be bona fide citizens of Michigan, undergo a criminal records check, and comply with conflict of interest guidelines established by law and Wayne RESA.
To contact a CMA Academy Board Member, please contact the Board's Corresponding Agent, Sid Faucette at 616.785.8440 or PO Box 141493, Grand Rapids, MI 49514.
Current School Board Members are the following:
Don Treadwell, President: Don is a third-generational real estate professional. He works as an appraiser and hold the MAI designation and is a licensed Certified General Appraiser with the State of Michigan. Don also has two degrees from the University of Michigan: A.B. and MBA. Don agreed to serve on the board at Creative Montessori Academy because he saw an opportunity to help insure that the youth of Wayne County would have an opportunity to fulfill their learning potential. He has been able to lend his real estate expertise when purchasing and improving the current facility for CMA. Don has enjoyed participating with other board members in developing a strategic plan for CMA and reviewing the staff proposed programs to achieve those goals.
Tammy Duty, Vice President/Treasurer: Tammy is married with two children who both attend Creative Montessori Academy. She is a high school Social Studies teacher, department chair and class sponsor. Tammy currently holds three degrees, a B.A. from Eastern Michigan University, M.A. from Wayne State University, and a specialist degree from Madonna University.
Shannon Higdon, Secretary: Shannon is a graduate from Wayne State University with a Master's in Social Work. She is also very committed to her community. Shannon is a board member at the DMAN Foundation, an elder at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Detroit Exchange Club. Shannon has a commitment to children and the downriver community, which is a main reason she wanted to serve on the CMA board.
Shelly Milton, Trustee: Shelly currently serves our community as a member of law enforcement. She is also invested in other community organizations. She is a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a POW member. Shelly's drive and determination for being on the CMA academy board is because of her want to be involved with and participate with her children's education. Shelly currently has two children that attend CMA, and she isn't always able to attend field trips and help with parent involvement, so participating on the school board allows her to remain close to her children's education.
