Practical Life Activity – Carrot Cutting

This week, the Willow Room delved into another life skill and that was carrot peeling, cutting and tasting! While it was fun to watch these children peel and cut their carrot, but it was interesting to see who tasted the fruits of their labor! In Montessori, this is considered a Practical Life activity. Why is this necessary in the Montessori environment? In short, the direct aim of Montessori Practical Life activities is to help develop social skills and independence and to adapt to society. Indirectly, Practical Life activities develop fine motor skills, as well as strengthening intellect, life skills, concentration, and personal will.
