Michigan’s Return to School Roadmap

Dear CMA Family,

I hope your first week of summer is going well!

As promised, we are writing to you today with an update on the fall school opening. Governor Whitmer announced the plan to release the next steps for school reopening in the fall. On June 30, she will release an “executive order and a robust document called Michigan’s Return to School Roadmap” that will provide details on what will be required and what will be recommended for all schools within the state.

As you know, our hope is that our students, teachers and staff return to school this fall with appropriate precautionary measures. On June 30, we anticipate additional guidance from the state. Nevertheless, we are proactively developing plans and gathering feedback for the fall to address the unique needs of our school community. All of our plans include social, emotional and mental health support, remote learning support and training, and will encourage open communication and frequent feedback between parents and staff as we embark on fall learning. Our return to school plans will include ways for your child to learn safely at home even if we can return to school.
According to the Governor’s announcement, the return to school plans would be dependent on which phase of the MI Safe Start Plan a particular region is located. Michigan schools may resume in-person learning in phase 5 of the MI Safe Start plan, with strict safety measures in place. Currently, our region is in phase 4 of the MI Safe Start plan. According to the MI Safe Start plan currently, phase 5 allows for live in-person instruction. You can find more about the MI Safe Start plan on the state website.

CMA family, We are encouraged by the announcement and hope this will quickly lead to a clearer picture of what school will look like this fall. Yet, we know there is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach to returning to the school buildings and many family needs will be different. We are and will continue to be committed to you and your family.

We still have many families that have not come to pick up students’ belongings, yearbooks, spring pictures, and Summer Bridge Academic books. Please come into the main office Monday-Thursday between 9am-1pm to pick up anything by July 31st.

We continue to enroll new families everyday into the Academy. Please reach out to your family and friends about enrolling for next year. Attached is a sheet explaining our Referral Program at CMA.

Please email or call us if you have any questions. We are here for you!

Sincerely,
Dr. Carter, Headmaster
