Students Turn Words into Impact: CMA Newspaper Project Gives Back

At CMA, our students are learning that their voices have the power to make a difference, not just in the classroom, but in the community as well.

Each month, students take on the exciting challenge of writing, editing, and publishing their very own newspaper. Once printed, they sell each copy for $1, turning their hard work into an opportunity to give back. What began as a classroom project led by Ms. Sandra Parker has grown into something much more meaningful: a student-led initiative rooted in generosity and purpose.

This month, CMA students reached an incredible milestone, selling 150 newspapers. But their efforts didn’t stop there. Alongside the funds they raised, students also organized a collection drive, gathering supplies and food to support a local cause close to home. All proceeds and donations have been given to the Downriver Animal Control Shelter, which serves three surrounding communities. Through this effort, students are not only supporting animals in need but also gaining firsthand experience in compassion, responsibility, and community outreach.

This project is a powerful reminder that seemingly small acts like writing a story, selling a paper, or donating an item can come together to create meaningful change. It’s also a reflection of the kind of character we strive to build in our students.

At a time when positive stories matter more than ever, CMA students are leading by example. Their work reminds us all that kindness is contagious and that when young people are given the opportunity to lead, they can truly make an impact.
